About Derrick
Before transitioning into real estate sales, Derrick spent more than 14 years working closely alongside REALTORS® and homeowners as a certified home inspector. After launching his own home inspection company in Simcoe County in 2007, he went on to inspect more than 7,000 homes, gaining a level of property insight few REALTORS® can offer.
From new builds and resale homes to duplex conversions and investment properties, Derrick brings a practical, knowledgeable perspective that helps clients see both the opportunities and the finer details of every home. Derrick officially joined the Peggy Hill Team in 2021, building on years of collaboration with the team through his inspection business.
His transition into real estate felt like a natural next step, allowing him to pair his technical knowledge of homes with a passion for helping people make confident, informed decisions. Together with his wife, fellow REALTOR® Laura-Lea Vogel, Derrick offers clients the advantage of a husband-and-wife real estate duo.
Having worked side-by-side for years through their home inspection company, they’ve developed a seamless approach to supporting clients, combining Derrick’s structural insight with Laura-Lea’s exceptional organization and client-focused guidance to create a thoughtful, well-rounded experience from start to finish.
Derrick is especially passionate about helping first-time buyers navigate the process. His ability to clearly explain how homes function, what to watch for, and where the true value lies helps clients feel empowered and confident every step of the way.
Before entering the real estate and inspection industries, Derrick spent years working in restaurants, where he developed the strong customer service foundation that still shapes his approach today.
His approachable personality, patience, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life make him a trusted guide through one of life’s biggest decisions.
Outside of Real Estate
Derrick enjoys spending time with Laura-Lea and their two children, making the most of everything Simcoe County has to offer. Whether it’s fishing, hiking, golfing, or getting out on the hockey rink in the winter, he loves the active, family-focused lifestyle the region provides. When they’re at home, you’ll often find the Vogels gathered around the table for a card or board game night.
