For the second consecutive month this year property sales from the Barrie & District Association of REALTORS® MLS® system were up considerably over last year. The Association covers the City of Barrie and part or all of the surrounding townships including Springwater, Oro-Medonte, Innisfil, Essa, Bradford-West Gwillimbury and Clearview.
Home sales in August increased 22% over August 2010 to 401 units. Gains in the city of Barrie were even stronger with an increase of 51% over last year to 269 units.
The number of listings posted on the Association's MLS® system have also increased over last year with new residential listings increasing by 1% and the number of active listings up 2% over last year.
The large increase can be attributed to both weak demand last year as well as the current strength of home sales. The strength of the Barrie real estate market is quite healthy says Catherine Garbe the President of the Barrie & District Association of REALTORS®, "Demand continues to run at healthy levels, with the August sales figure marking just the fourth time in history that home sales in the month of August have topped the 400 mark. As of the end of August, activity for the year-to-date had caught up with last year's levels, and was also running ahead of the first eight months of 2009."
Total sales in the Barrie region were up 23% in August to 416 units. So if you've been thinking about making your next move now might be the right time to do it!
